Who We Are

Redwoods and Rivers was started in 1994 when the Charlton family; Ray, Bobbie, Michael, and Wanda, after working many years for other river companies decided to start our own River Company.  Redwoods and Rivers was born out of a desire to run quality river trips the way we feel they should be done.  We believe that a quality river trip has these important themes: safety (always comes first), fun, educational, and spiritually rewarding.  Staying true to these themes Redwoods and Rivers has over the years evolved into one of the leading rafting companies in Northern California.  The company is well known for our many special trips, schools, and retreats, and especially for the consistently high quality of our river guides.

As a family owned and operated business one of our unique talents is to be able to welcome our clients and guide school students into our world for a personalized experience.  Through the years this has proven to be especially rewarding for us.  Not only do our clients come back year after year but our extended family keeps growing bigger and more diverse.

The Redwoods and Rivers Family is committed to providing professional, quality river trips. Although we are a business we believe in making our trips and trainings available to everyone. We often do community services trips for free or at cost, and have an active scholarship program available for individuals and groups.  We strive to be a Business healthy enough to pay our bills, maintain quality equipment and be able to reward our friends and workers for their work and support. We encourage the strong relationships that develop and hope that our staff and clients all feel like family. We realize for Redwoods and Rivers to grow and succeed, our staff must also succeed as individuals.

Testimonial

"Michael Charlton of Redwoods and Rivers is the most experienced oarsman on the river, having served his apprenticeship on the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, he has many years of white water experience. There are easier ways to make a living but Mike runs the river because he loves it. His work with handicapped people and underprivileged kids is unique on the river. Many of our campers have taken trips with Mike and all have nothing but praise for Mike and his guides and the wonderful experience they had on this beautifully scenic river."
